Bit of A Jumble..

After almost two decades of shooting project based material, there comes a time when you have a pile of images which just dont fit in anywhere.. A Jumble.
So I decided to add a new section to my ever growing website, the 'personal' stuff.. These images are from the last couple of years and are neither here nor there..

I was going to add some old world black and white to the mix, but thats for another day (and section)..

An old friend..

Very deep swimming pool to the left..

Large hole in the floor to the right..

Vile Wallpaper which made me feel quite vomitous..

On a recent Northern jaunt to the homeland I took a trip out with my old mate Dave, a fine fellow and good friend from a bygone era. We met during our A Level in Photography many years ago, and so what better than a wild outing with our cameras.
Heading for the coast the sky began to bruise, but before the rain set in we found refuge in an old abandoned spooky hotel... It was just like old times as we creeped through the haunted rooms looking for danger.
Now I wouldn't call myself an urban explorer as such, but I do still like the thrill of opening a door and discovering a dead body, (only kidding) some nice looking decay...

After an hour or so we eventually found our way outside through a secret door located in the basement and breathed a sigh of relief free from injury.

On our way back to the car Dave told me a fascinating tale of how he had rescued a stranded Dolphin.

It was a good day..

The joy of prints..

While on a trip to the homeland I was reminded of the importance a photographic print can have.
Upon clearing an old drawer my Scottish Auntie Morag found a portrait I had made of my late Uncle Les. I worked out that the print must of been in there for almost 30 years at a time when portraits were my thing and all I had was a canon camera and a 50mm lens. It was a cracking image and surprisingly sharp. Yes, the printing was a little heavy handed (made in my bedroom/ makeshift darkroom) but it was great to see.
The portrait now takes pride of place in my Aunties house and is a wonderful reminder of a great man.
It saddens me to think that in this age of the social network the only things being found in draws are old phone chargers instead of photographs and memories.

A day out..

My move from film to digital has been a lot smoother than I thought it might be. In fact I appear not be the least bit sad, or nosalgic for that matter..
Shooting with a medium format sensor has definately helped, producing beautifully smooth tones and controlled highlights.
I still do a single frame, as I did before with 4/5, and tend not to look at the preview unless the light is being particulary crafty. Old habits die hard I guess..
